My top 5

So I’ve found myself stating in random conversation, “that’s totally in my top five ___.” I then started wondering, what’s actually in my top five? Here are my top five food-related lists – for your personal reference, because I’m sure you’ve been dying from curiosity.

Top five vegetables

  1. Eggplant – The King of vegetables, dressed in Royal Purple of course. Now I have to call it ‘aubergine’ because I live in Europe and I am FANCY.
  2. Mushrooms. I think this counts as a vegetable. I probably wouldn’t have top 5 fungi….or would I?
  3. Okra. I love that unusual slimy texture.
  4. Beets. They remind me of my grandma’s garden.
  5. Avocado. Technically a fruit, but as a millennial I have to embrace putting avo in/on everything.

Top five fruits

  1. The Mango. Also the King of fruits, and fun fact: it’s the most popular fruit in the world! For good reason.
  2. Coconuts. Super versatile.
  3. Pineapple. I am sensing a tropical theme.
  4. Raspberries. I remember the raspberry bush at my childhood home in Alaska.
  5. Blueberries. Because they’re blue.

Top five food HATES

  1. Ketchup. Can’t even handle the smell of it. Don’t ask me to explain why, it just offends me.
  2. Mayonnaise! Gloopy, white, why??
  3. Fake cheese. This category includes things like cheetos, cheese whiz and velveeta. And American cheese. Gross.
  4. Milk. A bowl or glass of milk repulses me. I will cook with it sometimes, but will substitute plant-based milks whenever possible. However, I do like to sometimes add heavy cream and yogurt to things, so I guess I’m a bit inconsistent about dairy products.
  5. Butter. It smells really icky when melted, but I’ve decided to *try* to come to terms with this ingredient. It’s pretty essential for a lot of baking.
